Report comparing the viscosity and asphaltic bodies of two oil samples, 'A' and 'B', after a heat test.

200°C. for 24 hours. in order to ascertain the amount of alteration in the viscosity of the oil and the separation of asphaltic bodies insoluble in very light petroleum (Pentane). There was not much difference in the behaviour of the oils as to thickening, i.e. increase of viscosity compared with the original oil, but the amount of asphaltic bodies produced in sample 'B' was considerably greater than from 'A', the ratio being about 7:1.

temp. of 200°C. for 24 hrs. -

From this test and from the general consideration of the figures obtained in the examination one might safely predict that sample 'A' would prove more satisfactory in practice than sample 'B'.
