Thank you for your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}11/KW.13.12.34. Chassis B.11.AE. Registration No.AXX.286. Delivery date 12.4.34. Owner:- Mrs.Smith Bingham, Wykeman Park, Banbury Oxon. Following jobs done at K:- Date 8.8.34. Mileage 5,709. Job No .1906. General test of chassis prior to change of body, quieten tappets, examine for short in horn button. The opportunity was taken on this occasion to change the front axle for the modified type. 15.10.34. Job No.2519. Rectify ammeter sticking. From this copy of records, it will be seen that the car has only been to us on two occasions, and that on neither of these occasions was there a complaint of "brake jagger" the only remark regarding brakes is the incoming tester's report of the 8th August, Job No.1906, where he states "Brakes hold O.K.need adjusting up, pedal goes down to the board". There is no record, neither do we know personally that the chassis has had a "bump" prior to the actual failure. As the work was carried out at Caverfield near Bicester by our mechanic, we at Kingsbury have not seen the car, but as the mechanic reported that on test after the completion of the job there was a slight tendency for the brakes to pull to the offside, and in view of the delicacy of the situation as far as the owner is concerned, I understand from Pk that he has approached Conduit Street with a view to letting us have the car to rectify this small fault. It must be understood that in view of the extreme urgency of the job, it was only possible for our man to get the car into commission again as quickly as he could. He therefore only carried out an external examination of the nearside stub, which he assures me seemed quite in order and that all ball joints, road springs, etc. were quite O.K., there being nothing the matter with the car as far as he was concerned with the exception of a slight tendency of the brakes to pull to the offside. -contd- | ||
