S.S.SIDE STEERING TUBE.
--------------------
X7770.
X7450.

As a result of recent tests in France we wish to make a slight alteration in the setting of the S.S. tube to N.Sch.2301.

As will be seen from the attached sketch, the modification is equivalent to putting three .062 washers in each of the existing S.S. tube ends at the points marked a.a.a.

The resultant curve of loading is given on the appended graph.

Steering is essentially a compromise, and N.Sch. 2301 will always give the best results to a customer whose first consideration is absence of road shocks on the wheel.

We therefore recommend that a number of sets of the present production arrangement should be retained to be issued to Depots for use in such cases.

We are sure that our present recommendation will give the best results for the conditions under which the majority of our cars operate.
