Dear Sir,

You will recollect that on your last visit we discussed the failure of your Mintex LAM.730 material. The failure of this lining was due to its lack of mechanical strength. You said that you would replace the lining that you had already supplied with lining that was stretched through to give it strength. So far these replacements do not appear to have come to hand. In the interval we have carried out tests on the existing pieces and our main complaint is the efficiency of the lining falls tremendously with the application of water. This appears to exhibit this characteristic to a much greater extent than the standard Ferodo and it is rather serious because after the car has been washed, all braking disappears until three or four stops have been made.

We should like to have your comments on these results and to know whether they agree with your laboratory figures, and also whether you have any means of over-coming the difficulty.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
