Honeyman - Retail orders} X1033 Cricklewood, Oct. 7th, 1936. 30 HP. Stromberg Carburetters. I received G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Ratcliffe's memo. of the 26.9.36. re weakness part throttle opening and have noted the altered settings of the Bypass Jet, acceleration pump etc. I still feel that this complaint is not understood and although the steps taken are in the right direction, they do not touch the real complaint. (Before going further this complaint has almost died down. There was one in yesterday, but after cleaning the carburetter out and attending to ignition plugs, the fault was cured. The accelerator pump does enter into question of the complaint as we have had it. It is not being brought into operation at the time the weakness is noticeable. Alteration of the bypass setting did not cure it. This had already been done to Mr. Fisher's instructions, afterwards stopped. The fault has been definitely cured on the Paris Trials car, 23-G-V, another Bench car, (number not taken) and several here, by slightly increasing the main jet. The car we had in yesterday had a .063" jet but upon checking with a gauge it was nearer .064" than .063". (There was not time to go and have a flow test taken.) One case of popping in the carburetter was cured by fitting a new coil. The ignition and weakness combined, causes the popping in the carburetter, but this is not the fault we have reported upon. Another more or less serious fault has been shewn up of late. The ball valve for the drain in the Hot Spot is becoming clogged up with carbon which prevents it seating correctly and may be a cause of complaint in uneven running of the carburetter.
