REAR SHOCK DAMPER ex. GYL.51. 20 HP.

We have tested the above on 18.G.IV. fitted up as received with its own connecting tube tightened up as standard, and find there is a slight double knock, difficult to pick out when riding in the back of car with floor boards down, but distinctly heard with floor boards up.

We then slacked the tube off a little, as it would get after a 100 miles, or so and the knock was bad and could be heard quite readily when driving.

We then fitted it up with a spring loaded connecting tube, but the light knock was still there, as with its own tube, correctly adjusted. One point I noticed that may account for it getting slack and causing the knock was that the split pin hole in the bottom cap and tube were not correctly drilled and to get the split pin through it was necessary to slack the cap back two complete turns. The cap and tube would not be so solid fitted up in this way as if the cap was locked against end of tube before being split pinned up.
