Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}10/R.27.5.39. ORDER OF PRIORITY FOR FRENCH TESTS. It appears that the priority of cars goings to the Continent for Standardisation Tests will be as follows:- 30-G-VII. Since the 8-cylinder engine has come through its bench run so successfully, there is very little to stop this car going to France as soon as it has an up-to-date gearbox fitted with the standard ratios. It does require the right size of petrol tank and the Buick type harmonic damper. There is very little development work required on the fan to get it quiet, and the controls which have been designed want fitting up. We hope that this car will be ready to go to France by the middle of June. 14-B-V.{VIENNA} CONTINENTAL CAR. As this is wanted for the Show we should endeavour to get it to France as soon as possible. It is not easy to give a definite date when it will leave because there are one or two unknown factors. We shall, however, take up the attitude that if any of the experimental parts give trouble we shall replace them by standardised pieces. 3.B.50. The main object in sending this car to the Continent is to test out the cast iron engine. Before it goes, therefore, this should represent a unit which would be absolutely satisfactory for production if no trouble is experienced in France. In particular, before it goes, we must have the enclosed spring drive which has been designed with a single belt drive to the dynamo and fan, and we hope to have a satisfactory scheme for the duplex Stromberg carburetter. We hope to incorporate in the run on this car any modifications to reduce cost which can be included on the chassis. | ||
