#490 X3806 PY. from ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} C. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ROY{Sir Henry Royce}17/MG13.3.29 Price's Oil Company advise that they are in touch with Luvax Limited on the question of Lubrication generally for such Schemes, and write: "On the occasion of a visit last week, I "learnt in course of conversation with Mr. Pitt that you are "experimenting with the Luvax one-shot system of lubrication "for Rolls Royce cars. Mr. Pitt made no secret of the fact "and I hope that in taking up this matter with your good- "selves I am not breaking faith with anyone. Mr. Pitt men- "tioned the matter because he said you were desirous of using "if possible the same lubricant, viz Motorine C, as you use "in the engine. It happened that I was advocating the same "principle in the case of another car in which the Luvax Bijur "is being installed. "Mr. Pitt and his Confreres are strongly of the "opinion that heavier lubricant is required, but they tell me "they have no wish whatever to impose any difficult conditions "such as insisting upon some special grade of oil. Provided "that one or other of our standard grades comes reasonably "within the limits laid down, they are quite prepared that it "should be recommended and used. "From the particulars furnished to me by Mr. Pitt "it appears that our Motorines, such as Motorine B for winter "and Motorine A for summer, would admirably meet the require- "ments. According to the figures in their possession, Motorine "C which you are aware is lighter in body, is too light. Per- "sonally I think that on bearings of adequate size, good "design and good material Motorine C, as used in the engine, "may well be used for chassis lubrication, except perhaps in "very hot weather when Motorine B might be desirable."
