1262. File To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from ROY{Sir Henry Royce} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to HY.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Tube Products Ltd, of Oldbury, have developed the manufacture of electrically welded Tubes in Carbon Steel to a fine art, and are now making many thousands of feet per week. We have supplies in hand of such Tube for Bentley and Wraith Propeller Shafts in hand with them - two or three of each - and these will be to hand shortly. Meantime attached, to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}, is a sample of such Tube they are making for another firm - which we are at liberty to subject to any test we wish. They claim the use of such Tubes simplifies plating considerably, owing to the better surface, compared with the ordinary drawn Tubes, apart from which they are considerably cheaper than drawn Tubes. [Handwritten] Hives ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} Should like to know relative costs, reduction on quantities etc. We should visit the plant & see the sort of work they do. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Att. Sample Tube. (already sent to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}). | ||
