H1/JSW H1/250W c. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} ROY{Sir Henry Royce}/Lead 1305 BY.1/G.7.7.38. A.R.M WOODHEAD TOLEDO ROAD SPRING PLATES. With reference to report No. M.1636, ref. H1/EJW.1/SK.30.6.38. there is no question but that for rolled plates, the spring plates submitted by Woodheads (Toledo) are the best plates we have seen. Where in an ordinary way decarburisation is anything up to .015 in depth, these plates have been controlled so that the maximum depth of decarburisation is .0035. In discussing this matter with Mr. Frank Woodhead, it appears that they have followed the proposal which I made when discussing this matter some time back with Firths, that the length of plate produced by rolling should be worked to a short length, the length being a multiple of the spring plate into which it is to be produced. In view of the remarkably good results from the point of view of shallow decarburising effects, I would suggest that Mr. Talbot has the plates so that he can cut them up and carry out some experiments to show under what conditions in a cyanide bath the decarburising can be completely removed. I attach to H1/Gt's copy of this memo, the above mentioned report. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
