To Col: Harker. From EFC. X.3344 RE ELECTRIC LIGHTING AND STARTING SYSTEM FOR POST-WAR CHASSIS In answer to your enquiry for details of the above. The system will be a 12 volt system. DYNAMO. X.3014 The dynamo for the first 500 chassis will be of Lucas make, type E.575. This dynamo has third brush control and is a very well made machine. It will attain a voltage sufficient to start charging the battery at about 650 R.P.M., and will reach an out-put of nearly 12 amperes at 1500 R.P.M. At speeds above this figure, the out-put remains approximately constant at this value. The dynamo will be driven as usual, from the front of the gear box, and speeded up in relation to the engine in the ratio 1.5 to 1. On subsequent chassis our policy is not yet decided. We ultimately, however, hope to be using a dynamo of our own design and make. SWITCHBOARD & DISTRIBUTION BOARD. On the first 250 chassis, a switchboard and distribution board each of Lucas make will be used. The switchboard contains the automatic cut-out and switches for (1) charging, (2) side and tail lamps (3) head and tail lamps, the switches being of the push-in and pull-out type. The cut-out is well protected and a good job, and is extremely unlikely to fail in service. The distribution board is a well made affair consisting principally of two bus bars from which five pairs of connections can be taken. This will be used because there are not any spare connections on the switchboard. Contd. | ||
