-14- Contd. STARTER MOTOR. Lubrication. A few drops of gear oil should be given at intervals to the reduction gear through the lubricator T (fig.59). Occasionally remove the end cover J, clean out the bearing and replace a small quantity of fresh grease. Excess of grease may lead to trouble with the brush gear. Chain Drive. The driving chain C should be adjusted at F so as to be neither slack nor taut in any position. Brushes. Before dismantling any part of the starter motor remove the two fuses from the Lucas junction box. At intervals remove the cover H and inspect commutator and brushes. Deposits of brush dust should be suitably removed. Should faulty running of the motor develop which is not traceable to the battery, it is possibly due to faulty contact of the brushes on the commutator, which may in turn be due to want of freedom of the brushes in their holders. Such want of freedom is likely to result from excess of bearing grease having found its way to the brush holder. Contd. R.R. 199 (10S) (SD670) 19-7-27 All/18065 | ||
