CLUTCHES.

The clutch on 25-KT has worked remarkably, there has not been the slightest criticism. The work the clutch has to do is enormous with traffic lights every-where. Even where there are no lights, the streets are posted either as "through streets" or "cross streets" at every corner. On a "cross street" you must stop before you enter or cross a "through street". The clutch is in use the whole time.

Springfield are pretty well convinced that the improvement they have made in their clutch on Phantom I is probably due to their changing the material more than altering the design.

Brake Squeak. 25-KT. has run 2100 miles here and we have not had a sign of brake squeaks. They have been keen listening for squeaks because it has been a trouble with them and also on imported Phantom II. This car is fitted with the special anti-squeak front brake shoes. If this result is confirmed on the other cars we have running we ought to standardise this type of brake shoes.
