ENGINES FOR MOTOR BOATS ------------------------ With reference to Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 3/MJ.30.5.30, the history of this job is as follows:- Saturday, 10th May - Saunders rang up and asked for particulars of Condor engines, together with prices, for use in motor boats. Monday 12th " Particulars and prices dispatched. 13th " Saunders acknowledged, asking for installation drawing. 14th " By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} stated installation drawing dispatched. " " Saunders replied (Ref:NVD/HPA) stating that they had received blue prints and particulars of the Condor lllB engine, but said "We notice that these all apply to an aero engine, which is quite unsuitable for the purpose we require. We are tendering to a foreign Government for six high speed patrol boats............We should propose to fit the centre engine with reverse gear and the two wing engines with disconnecting clutches" if Condor suitable for seawater work and we would supply reverse gear and disconnecting clutches. 15th " By26/G.15.5.30 forwards this letter to London stating that he considers the matter should be put up to Sg. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} owing to the doubtful suitability of the Condor engine for the purpose. 14th " F. {Mr Friese} visited Derby to discuss this matter and saw By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} , Wor {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} being engaged and unable to give an appointment. | ||
