Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} 1300 Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}3/G.18.4.39. PHANTOM III - STEERING. PD.422, attached to Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}'s copy, shows the strengthened rocker shaft for the Phantom III steering, the Phantom II size of splines having been fitted. The increase in size of the rocker shaft has made impossible the fitting of a Perfect oil seal on the rocker shaft unless a number of major pieces, including the distance piece in the frame, are altered, and it has therefore been thought advisable to use a felt washer in its place. The alteration to rocker shaft flexibility will obviously alter the overall flexibility of the steering linkage, and it will be necessary to alter this back again to the present figure. If a cranked side steering tube is to be introduced into the system, then that again will alter the flexibility and any correction may be deferred until that is done. R.J.H. Start & have made.
