Y. 23rd February 1911 Lubrication of engines. 1195 (Terry) C.J. 23/2/11 R22/D23211 We are now running the cars continuously on the dynamometer at full power without the extra oiling device. If they will satisfactorily do this, I think we need have no fear but that the ordinary oiling will do for slow speeds such as the 25 m.p.h. mentioned in Mr. Hanbury's report on Mr. Terry's car 1195. This was what we found the Metallurgique would do but we are not sure that our old Silver Ghost would do it. Our cars then would be like the Metallurgique inasmuch as they will run under severe loads without the extra oiling, but when under severe loads, the extra oiling is supplied, there is decided increase of power as well as sweetness of running. I am sending a sheet to Mr. Platford to take such an engine and try, with the utmost care to find out some means by which it can [Handwritten in left margin] X740 This fault, I think would not exist with present methods of treating pistons & lubrication. And, of course, less destructive wear. | ||
