40/50 h.p. Continental type
Chassis for Mr.Pass.

Mr.Pass has given us an order for one of these chassis for delivery within 14 days for his personal use in the International Alpine Trial which takes place in July. There are certain special points and features which require attention, and I give you hereunder the details :-

(1) Sg {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} wishes that WP should specially test this chassis knowing the purpose for which it is required.

(2) The chassis must be a standard chassis in respect of all its essential features, one of which is the cooling system. At the same time it is desired that if any adjustment of the anti-splash device can be made to prevent surging of the water and loss of water, this is a matter which should receive your attention. I am not quite certain personally what the anti-splash valve is designed to do, that is to say, whether it only opens against steam pressure and if so what pressure that is, but perhaps you would let me have for general information details of the intentions the Works had in mind when this anti-splash valve was designed and produced.

(3) We take it that the radiator tubes would be of the very latest indented type for cooling purposes.

(4) The wheels, of which there should be 6, should be chromium plated unless there is any technical objection to this. This question of chromium plating the wheels need not delay delivery of the chassis which could be sent to London on ordinary wheels whilst you are having the actual wheels chromium plated.

(5) The tyres, which ordinarily should be the standard of to-day, are a point on which we would like to have the Works' recommendations, knowing the purpose for which the car is to be used. Mr.Pass seems to think that the ordinary modified silent tread should be all right.

(6) Standard "F" steering column and standard Continental type springs and shock absorbers, hydraulic and Hartford.

(7) Mr.Pass would be glad to know the Works' recommendations on what spares should be carried.

(8) No wheel carrier is necessary.

(9) We would like to have Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ' opinion as to the advisability of fitting this chassis with D.W.S. automatic jacks. That is to say, whether
