446 To H1/EW. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}9/JH.10.4.40. Cast Steel Lower Suspension Lever - B.V. We have handed to you a cast steel lower suspension lever F.2060 which was accidently broken while the car was dismantled by the application ofa bending load producing about 8 tons/sq.in. Stress. As this is a very low stress to cause failure and as the material appears to be very brittle we are anxious to have your report on the condition of the steel and on what can be done by heat treatment to improve it as suggested by you. We would also like to know the tensile strength and notch brittleness before and after heat treatment. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} | ||
