BENSPORT GEARBOX.

We sent N. sch. 3558. to Derby on 24.11.32., which shews the suspension of the gearbox, arms for servo brackets at agreed increased radius with .250 studs for tubular bracket, and speedometer drive rotation arranged to suit reversed servo direction compared with our existing cars.

We have provided for adjustment of the gearbox vertically for its alignment with the engine, but not horizontally. Horizontal adjustment is not easy to get on the box section side rails. It may be possible to get adjustment on the rear fixings of the rails.

The box section side rails were provided for greater torsional rigidity in view of the use of rubber mounted arms on the gearbox. It may be that no harm would result from the use of a channel section, and if so, savings would result in the fixings, and a certain amount of horizontal adjustment of the gearbox position be obtained by drilling the holes to suit.

It is intended that the gearbox and side rails be assembled complete in the car from beneath.

N. sch. 3594. sent off on Sat. last shews the level stick, filling plug, and modifications for oil retention. We are not certain of the value of the oil retention scheme, and are asking HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} to let us know what can be found out from the existing scheme on P. 2. pre-synchro mesh.
