BENTLEY III & PACKARD YOKE MOVEMENT. The sideways movement of the yokes on the above two cars has been investigated and the following data have been obtained:- The movement of the top bearing of the yokes in the direction of their axes amounted to .117" for the B.III and .085" for the Packard. This was for a load variation of 1200 lbs at the wheel in both cases. The following items show where this movement comes from. from. B.III. Packard. A.{Mr Adams} Yoke piece bending ................... .040" .014" B. Needle bearing end play and diametral clearance ............. .015" .016" B.2. Bending of pivot pin, housing distortion, etc. .................. .012" .005" C. Sideway movement of the yoke as a whole ......................... .029" .026" D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} Twisting in neck of lower lever ... .002" .0025" X. & E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Fidgeting in joint of lower lever and torque arm. ................... .019 .020 _______ _______ Total = .117 .0835. The accompanying print Fig.1 shows, by means of the letters, more clearly where the movement is coming from. The last item 'X' may need some explanation.
