Copy of letter received from:- Messrs. Prices Patent Candle Co. Ltd., Battersea, London. S. W. 11. In your reply please quote LM/B. 25th October, 1926. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited, DERBY. Dear Sirs, Your Ref. Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}3/EB 221026. With reference to your favours of the 12th and 22nd instant, we purposely deferred replying to the former as we were on the point of meeting a number of our Representatives with whom we should be discussing the oils for Ford vehicles. We should explain that the only Listed oil of ours which conforms to your requirements is Motorine E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} This is our equivalent to Vacuum Mobiloil E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} We have no other Listed grade which would answer the purpose. With regard to your lack of success in obtaining supplies of Motorine E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} locally, we would explain that, in the first place, Ford cars are to be found in only limited quantities. Their popularity has, we feel sure you will agree, waned considerably. There are a few Fords still running, particularly Ford vans, and for these a very cheap oil is insisted upon. A rich compound lubricant such as Motorine E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} is much too costly for Ford commercial vehicles. In consequence, whilst Motorine E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} was, in former years, largely stocked and supplied for Fords it is now only obtainable in few quarters, the use for it having almost disappeared. We are supplying less expensive Oils for Fords, particularly Ford vans, but these are not listed. They are not generally stocked by Motor Agents as they are, in many cases, sold direct to owners of fleets of commercial vehicles. (continued) | ||
