Thank you for your letter of the 28th.
We sent a number of sets of plugs over with Lp.{Mr Lappin} which we hope you have received by now. We shall be glad to have your report on these as soon as possible.

I expect you will be interested to know how we are getting on here.

Carburetter.

Now that we have corrected the float chamber balance and got the loading up right, the latter by getting the right ratio of the small choke to the main throttle, we are left with the throttle bias. We find that this trouble has been introduced because in order to clear the steering box, the Peregrine carburetter has been pushed up close to the induction pipe. Also the hot spot has been taken off the sides of the throttle where it is on other carbs. and put at the top of the T uptake of the induction pipe.

The result is that the distribution can be completely spoilt by the throttle position. The only cure we have for this is to drop the carburetter 3" by means of a distance piece between the induction pipe and the carburetter, and have a hot spot at this point. To get this on the car we have got to move the steering column so this will take a little time.

We are very disappointed with the power of the R.R. carburetter on Peregrine. We attach a power curve showing :-

(1) The power we have been able to get with the S.U.
(2) The power on the same engine with the R.R. carburetter.
(3) The power you are getting on your engine in France.

In view of these facts we have decided that we shall not send another car out until the carburetter is right, and it will be almost impossible to get the parts
