EXPERIMENTAL DESIGNS.

With reference to DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}2/M.7.5.27. we wish to point out that although we have revised steerings to give increased body space on EAC.Vll and EAC.Vlll, we have not got similar schemes for the present production Phantom.

If it is intended to adopt the revised steering columns on present production chassis, then some special parts will be required, as these parts, such as steering column brackets etc. as fitted on EAC.Vll and Vlll, will not be suitable.

In regard to the strengthened step irons, and the additional one for short type chassis, we have already arranged for the dies to be modified, and immediately these are ready the strengthened step irons will be produced and fitted to production chassis. We have also arranged for the additional step iron to be fitted on short type chassis.

Although we have instructed the strengthened step irons experimentally, nothing can be done of course until the dies have been altered.

In connection with the experiments on India chassis, as pointed out in our memo BY/CB2/G.3.5.26. it is impossible for us to fit the increased diameter third cross member owing to the fact that it would be fouled by the propeller shaft before the rear axle had reached its maximum bump position, consequently we are only fitting the increased diameter fourth cross member, as instructed by you.

The total isolation scheme between scuttle and dash has now been applied to present production 20 HP. chassis.
