Bump rig tests of split rear springs with fitted extra clips to determine if their operational life could be increased.

We have carried out tests on the bumping rig with split rear springs which have had fitted to them extra clips to the plates to see whether we could increase the life of these springs before they breake We machined and fitted three clips to either end of each spring. We clipped the second leaf, the third lead of the fourth leaf to the bottom leaf. The results of the tests on the bump rig do not show any marked advantage as regards the life of the springs with these clips fitted, We have run 25 hours with the clips fitted and during this run the following breakages have occurred.
