HANTS.

ATTENTION OF MR. BLACKITH.

Dear Sirs,

Further to the Leyland big-end failures, recently discussed with you at Derby.

The samples have been examined by Mr. Hall, and the material is to specification.

Regarding the mechanical aspect of these failures, we cannot do better than to confirm our original opinion, namely, shortage of oil.

You will probably agree also, that in view of Mr. Markland's action in altering the drilling to alleviate the shortage under cold starting conditions; the whole problem would seem to have been tidied up at least for the present.

Yours faithfully,
for Rolls Royce Ltd.,
