A further argument is that it is well known that the brakes are defective on cars with Hotchkiss drive, because of the flexible control torsionally of the rear axle. Brakes on the front wheels, unless used in conjunction with a torque member, would have this defect.

Finally, picture to yourself winter conditions in Canada for example, when the car will not even steer without chains on at least one front wheel. What would front wheel brakes do under such conditions?
