32-EX. PHANTOM III.
Threaded Shackles.

At the conclusion of yesterday's running, it was found that the shackle pin at the front end of the O.S.R. spring had forced the locating washer and turned in the anchorage. On trying to screw out the shackle pin for examination, it was found that the thread had seized and that the threaded bush turned in the spring eye.

We can see no way of dismantling the shackle without damaging or destroying something. We have therefore no alternative but to continue running with it as it is, until we receive instructions from you what to do.

There did not appear to be any shortage of lubrication to the shackle.
