Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 4/R.24.3.39. 7.B.V. and 9.B.V. Steering Tests. As a result of tests carried out on these two cars on the Buxton Road, we are of the opinion that with regard to wandering there is very little to choose between the two cars. 9.B.V was very much improved from the condition in which we drove it to Park Wards, but we still consider the sponge in the steering to be a disability when traffic is being negotiated at high speeds. One marked advantage is its lightness when parking, but for the type of car with which we are dealing, we consider that satisfactory handling at speed cannot be sacrificed to get ultra-light parking. 7.B.V. seemed unnecessarily heavy considering the small difference in ratio between this car and 9-B-V and we understand that this is being investigated. We should also like to fit 9.B. with ¾° backward castor to see what effect this has on the steering. Furthermore, we should like to try the car with less sponge in the steering, and the wheel 40 ozs out of balance to see what road shocks are like. Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
