337. HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Smth. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Smth3/R.7.4.37. P.III PROPELLER SHAFT. We have recently fitted transmission dampers to one or two P.III's, and have been troubled by the propeller shaft balance being inconsistent. As we have issued a Depot Sheet for fitting the damper in the case of drive groan complaints, we want to investigate the out-of-balance quickly. Will you please have built up a P.III propeller shaft, complete with a 25/30 damper, in which each of the following items are in independent balance:- (1) Shaft. (2) Damper hub. (3) Inertia rings. We shall then see if the balance can be upset by turning the rings into different positions. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Smth. | ||
