re: D.54828 MODIFIED TYPE ROTORS.
-------------------------------

We have recently had to attend to two complaints of misfiring on 4 1/4 litre chassis, vis chassis B.74.GA and B.167.KU and upon examination, we found the cause of the trouble to be due to displacement of the rotor blade owing to the failure of one of the (moulded) lugs of the rotor as per attached sketch.

On the one removed from chassis B.74.GA there are distinct traces of the rotor blade having fouled the stationery H.T. contacts and this caused one of the lugs to fail. We fitted a new one and charged the owner, because we suspected his/chauffeur of having incorrectly replaced the rotor or the distributor head.

B.167.KU - Our Nice Depot attended to this car and fitted a new rotor under the guarantee as the car had only covered 4500 miles. They have returned the damaged rotor to us for examination and we find there are only slight traces, if any, where the rotor blade may have fouled one or more of the contacts. We thought we would point out the above to you. We do not know what clearance exists between the rotor and the contacts, or whether should play develop in the driving spindle and the bearings, this could cause the blade to foul with consequent fracture of one of the lugs.
