Standardising the gearbox oil level and procedure for checking it to minimise leaks.

In the hot weather in France we found it necessary to run with the oil level in the gearbox 3/4" below the top of the dip-stick, to minimise oil leaks. We suggest therefore that this distance should be standardised. In addition we think it would be advisable to point out that the level in the gearbox should be taken with the oil warm, otherwise misleading results are liable to be obtained. Also, unless the gearbox is warm and the oil which is put in is in the fluid state, it is almost impossible to hit on the correct level when replenishing.
