A sample 20-0-20 chassis ammeter made by the Park Royal Co. and received on 18.6.27. ran 28,045 miles satisfactorily on an experimental car. Park Royal ammeters are fitted with the maker's patent "Pivaspring" pivot. Resulting from this satisfactory performance, six instruments were ordered from this firm made up in our present standard black and white instrument patch finish. The first instrument of these six was received a week or two ago, was duly tested, and was the subject of one or two minor criticisms on our part. Five further instruments have now been received incorporating the slight improvements resulting from these criticisms, these are being duly tested (the test includes an overload test of 90 amperes of current each way for a short period), and will be put on experimental cars as opportunity presents itself, though at the moment most of the experimental cars are fitted with instruments with white face dials. One of these instruments however, is instructed to be put on chassis 18-EX which has instruments with dials of the present S.S. standard black finish.
