X2924. MINUTES OF CONFERENCE AT DERBY JANUARY 31st 1933. Present - Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Rg.{Mr Rowledge} Ey. Ms. My. Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Chassis Items. Item 1. Peregrine. The question of high oil temperature was mentioned by Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} after having read 26/HPSM.1.33. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said it was necessary to continue with the testing of Peregrine in order to obtain data regarding the oil temperature and to particularly test the merits of the ribbed sump. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} also said that the tests should continue for other reasons such as the proving out of the method of attaching the shock dampers to the chassis frame, which caused a fracture of the frame on previous tests. It was agreed that the tests in France should continue. Item 2. Bensport. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} referred to his recent visit to R.{Sir Henry Royce} and said that R.{Sir Henry Royce} was in favour of going ahead with the Bensport in its present form and putting same into production if Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} was satisfied with the points which can obviously be improved by slight modification such as height of floorboards, pedal position and seating position and leg room. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said the floorboards could be lowered about half an inch by cutting away the floorboards in certain places and using sheet metal covers to make up the holes for instance, over the servo brake. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said that if the car is to be ready for Olympia no large alterations could be promised. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said that in order to fit the Petrol Pump crankcase modifications are necessary in order to get the drive in. The modification consists chiefly of the use of studs in place of bolts for holding on the main bearing caps. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} asked what was being used on the present Experimental Bensport and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said the S.U. Electric Petrol Lift was fitted. It was agreed that in the first instance the same method should be used and the crankcase alteration and R.R. Petrol Pump could be brought in as a modification on the next series and at the same time as its adoption on the 20/25. | ||
