We send herewith N.sch.2474 shewing some proposals for lightening the propeller shaft and thrust bearing on the Phantom.

There are three items shewn - (1) a deep groove ball bearing, (2) A Schatz type ball bearing, and (3) a New Departure thrust bearing in conjunction with the existing ball bearing, and Mr. Royce would like you to test them in this order.

There is also a proposal for a solid torque tube which is indicated here, but of which we shall send you a drg. on Monday. This involves some alteration to the forward bearing and its lubricating arrangements, wg{Mr Gill - Financial Director} which are indicated on this drawing.

The remaining savings are the boring of the two parts of the prop. shaft.
