EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} from Wd. {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} C. to By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X.8796. Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 6/NJ25.11.25. X.8796 - Watford Magnetos. In reply to yours EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 3/T16.11.25, North & Sons Ltd. have written under dated 24th inst. as follows:- "Regarding the faulty H.T. Pick-up returned "to us, we beg to say that we have now made a "close examination of this part and find that the "trouble was due to the brush having become "lodged in its holder. This we found was due to "either grease or oil having come into contact with "the slip ring and then being flung up on to the "cone of the pick-up where the carbon dust "accumulated." "From our experience of these brushes sticking "in this manner we have discontinued the use of "grease in the ball bearings and are employing oil "only." As the foregoing is not a full reply to our letter of 17th inst. (in which we communicated to Norths the remarks in yours of 16th inst.), we have asked them for further information.
