BENTLEY REAR AXLE.

We have managed to get hold of the rear axle off a customer's car B.75.AE. as this customer has had repeated pinion bearing trouble.

The axle is arriving in the Experimental Dept. without having been disturbed by anyone else first. Will you please examine this carefully with a view to finding out whether

(1) the centre case is distorted, possibly through the use of a garage jack.

(2) the roller race is in concentric or square with the thrust bearing.

(3) the housing in the pinion bearing is not to the drawing.

(4) The two thou. nip on the thrust bearing has been omitted.

If none of these likely errors appear to be the cause of the trouble, perhaps you will be able to find something else wrong which will account for all the failures.
