SpectreCodename for Phantom III Gearbox.

N. Sch.4136 herewith shows an alternative 2nd speed S.M. sleeve with locating pin to prevent cross winding and plungers arranged in two rows, as recently instructed for the Phantom.

This is to be regarded as experimental as it is more costly than the present arrangement as shown on OL.740, and it may not be necessary.

The plunger springs are designed to have as low a rate as practicable, in order that the friction when sliding on the plain bore with springs compressed may be a minimum.

We understand that no difficulty is found in obtaining reliability from springs which flex only infrequently with the stress we give.

We also ask for alternative springs of lower load and for alternative sleeve and cams of 50o as well as the 45o shewn.
