To Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from R. {Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ. Turbot R4/M28.4.25. ORIGINAL GOSHAWK 1. X.3481 X.4264 Regarding G.l. returned to Derby by Dodd on Sat. last the 25th.inst., one of the chief troubles on this car seemed to be the defective steering from which we ought to learn something. Just before it left I came to the conclusion that the road wheels might possibly be too far over the pivots, past the centre point steering, instead of our best practice of about ¼" outside the pivot and road intersection. Will you kindly pack out the road wheels until the intersection is in our favourite position, and see whether the steering is any better. If you can get the steering right I should like to see it again. It should have smaller dia. road wheels with low pressure rear tyres, and the rear springs more supple, and both axles having shock absorbers. Also get it to work without the butterfly valve in the exhaust. The throttle spindle should be eased. We tried to get it out but it was too difficult; please see that it is possible with both our standard models. R. {Sir Henry Royce} | ||
