RE "GOSHAWK II" - GOVERNOR DRIVE. Before instructing the revised governor to the Works, we should like you to confirm the following movements with Mr Bailey. The model governor loaned to the D.O. gave 19° angular movement of weights at our disposal for obtaining a range from retard to advance of 15° on governor spindle or 30° on the flywheel. There appears to be some doubt as to this required range. Handwritten: Quite Correct E.F.C. We also require particulars of the free setting of the spring, i.e. the included angle of the open ends. The model spring supplied by the Exptl:Dept: gives a free included angle of 148°, whereas the governor weights at rest give only 142°. Handwritten: Seems O.K. E.F.C. The engine speed range of the governor is also required for adding to the arrangement drawing for testing purposes. For your information we give below the various movements possible with parts instructed experimentally for the cylindrically weighted governor:- GOVERNOR ARMS. | RETARD TO ADVANCE RANGE.
