Valves and Fittings (B.80.No.2 Unit)

Failure of No.1 Inlet Rocker EB.4731.

Failure occurred on 24.5.39 after 46 hours 35 mins, of which 15 hours were full throttle.

This Rocker was produced in S/ZN to specification No.2072, fracture occurred in the bend of the Push Rod arm as shewn on the attached photograph.

H1/GLT. suggests failure may be due to the stretching operation following forging without any intermediate anneal. This is given in the Laboratory report ref: H1/EJW.1/JM.{Mr Morley}12.6.39.
