X 832. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rn. {Mr Robinson} 3/KT. Oct. 12th 1932. Messrs T.B. Andre & Co, Ltd, Victoria Gardens, Ladbroke Road, Notting Hill Gate, London, W.11. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letters of the 21st. ult, and the 3rd. last. We have received the two control units which you sent us and can see no reason why these should be any better than those we have already tested. Our experience shows that liquid leaks past the piston which is headed by a plain rubber cup type of washer and so out of the cover via the threaded portion. We understood that you had an entirely new type incorporating copper bellows in place of the cylinder and piston and had hoped that this would be what we should receive. We should be interested to hear from you whether you are making such a hand controlled unit, because after our own tests we consider the existing type definitely unsatisfactory. Our other objection is that the dampers are inadequately located sideways. The main reason seems to be that they are mounted on silent block rubber bushes. The rear dampers on our car constantly hit the petrol tank support bolts when there is no load. The front dampers do the same thing and appear very unsightly when viewed from outside the car, but having nothing to hit do not make a noise. We should be glad if you would consider some improvement. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
