contd : -2- to this car would not make the steering satisfactory for Continental road conditions as described in Mr. Muskor's letter. We have recently pointed out to R.{Sir Henry Royce} that the springs in the side steering tube on the 20 HP., even the latest ones, are considerably stiffer in proportion to those which are used on the latest Phantom, and we are expecting to receive instructions for some weaker ones. If it is considered that modifications are neccessary to existing 20 HP. steerings, we think that a better combination can be obtained than that fitted to Mr. Guy Knowles's car. Experiments are being made in this direction. When the question of when the new type 20 HP. steering should be introduced was discussed with B.J. at Derby on the 21.9.26, he stated that 20 HP. steering complaints were not serious, and it was for this reason the introduction of the new steering was delayed.
