EAC.7. AXLE WEIGHTS. +8840

As will be seen from the attached figures,
the open propeller shaft with semi elliptic rear springs is
definitely heavier than our present cantilever construction.
The discrepancy will be still more marked when the lightened
torque tube is available for the 40/50 HP.

With reference to the rest of EAC.7. axle
which is not affected by the type of propeller shaft, a saving
of over 50 lbs. has been effected. The figure of 50 lbs.
as the wt. saved on the camshafts, carrier plate etc. is
rather misleading as on the 40/50 the spring anchorage is
included in this, on EAC.7 it is not. Actually, however,
35 lbs. is saved on these items. The brake drums and axle
tubes both contribute an appreciable amount to the total
weight that has been eliminated.
