X1020 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RJH.17/KW. 28th November,1935. Your Ref: Tech. Dept. FOH/MB. Messrs. Ransome & Marles Bearing Co.Ltd., Newark-on-Trent. For the attention of F.O. Hickling Esq. Dear Sirs, We are very sorry for the delay in answering your letter of the 19th inst. Mr. S.H. Grylls, who originally dealt with the matter of the 35 m.m. axle bearing, is at present abroad and the writer is handling the job in his absence. We are not quite sure whether you are aware that one ball in the bearing was broken after the dynamometer test, as you do not mention this in your letter, and one ball was missing from the bearing when you returned it to us. We have been unable to find any trace of the broken ball at this end, so we assume that either it was sent on to you, or it has been lost. Perhaps the broken ball would explain the evidence of foreign matter. If this is so then it appears certain that we need a bearing of greater load capacity. We enclose a blue print of the arrangement of the bearing and we should be very glad if you would let us know at an early date what you can do in the way of increasing the capacity. Yours truly, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
