To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. to CJ. c. to WCr. c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} ORIGINAL EFC2/T9.8.22. X.4333 - MOULDING POWDER WITH ASBESTOS FILLER X3573 We were visited last Friday by two representatives of the Mouldensite Company, who brought along with them a number of samples of their Mouldensite powder, but with asbestos in place of the wood filling, and a number of experiments in moulding various pieces were made in their presence. The powders submitted are more suitable for commutator construction than other pieces - they do not flow so readily - and it is now considered that for all other purposes than the dynamo commutator, it is unlikely that we shall improve on Messrs. Fleming, Birkby & Goodall's Elo powder which we appear to be obtaining now in consistent quality. At the moment, it does not appear desirable to get the Mouldensite Co. to arrange their plant for asbestos filling of the small quantity of powder which we shall require. In the meanwhile we are carrying on with various tests of test pieces of various descriptions and of various powders, though it is not known definitely whether R.{Sir Henry Royce} intends these experiments to be made more particularly with a view to the possibility of later using moulded commutators on the dynamos. At the moment it is arranged that our Goshawk dynamo for experimental bench tests shall be built with such a commutator. EFC. | ||
