X1166 S/W Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} C19/C15.11.35 Re Wm.Arnold...Bentley Jack. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}21/KW13.11.35 Thanks for your memo. and I note that the jack will not go under the jacking pad when the tyre is off the rim. I agree with you that Arnold is taking a very extreme case, more particularly as I note that Dunlops have demonstrated to you that the tyre cannot come off the rim unless the car is reversed after the puncture. This is quite interesting, and I will inform Arnold. We shall be very pleased to try this jack in London, but as I understand supplies have not yet commenced, we have not got one. Will you please give instructions for one to be sent to us, and we shall then know more about it. We can quite appreciate the objection to fitting located jacks on the Bentley, but note that if a customer insists he can have the Smith Jackall. So far as Arnold is concerned, I think we must tell him to try the jack with the tyre on the rim but in a fully deflated condition, when no doubt he will find it all right. I note that you are in any case endeavouring to do something with the jacking pad to deal with even this emergency. C. | ||
