Dear Mr. Bentley, ✓ (handwritten) Coley, re. BRAKE SOLENOIDS. Mr. Bentley and I decided that the above ought not to come through the top, because it embarrasses the design, increasing the cost, and permitting moisture to get in (not so dirt proof). Also that a large air dash pot IS preferable to an oil pot, and that the designs become two standard types, perhaps in two sizes. It was concluded that the magnet would be placed above the brake lever where-ever convenient, or a stirrup would be fitted round the magnet or an idle lever, thus - Cast iron case round coil. Rod to brake. Air pot. Nearly all the features of the design were settled, and the air pots were to be tried double acting, 3" for the smaller size, and 4" dia for the larger. Yours faithfully, AH Royce | ||
