To EFC. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL E1/C15/3/21.D 16 MAR 1921 RECEIVED X.1364 X.4217 RE LAMP BULBS FOR "ESSEX" CAR. With reference to your memo EXCl/T12/3/21 returning all the lamps you sent us for the "Essex" car as none of these will go into the American holders. There is not enough distance between the pins and the shoulders of the lamp sockets. If the lamp sockets were perfectly parallel instead of being made with a formed shoulder, they would fit. American bayonet joint lamp holders require long sockets on the lamps. Perhaps the Mazda would be able to supply these, as the head lamp bulbs at present in use on the car have the words "National Mazda" on them. Referring to the three 4 volt bulbs supplied, these are too large, and will not go inside the cowling for the instrument board light. Referring again to memo E2/G22/2/21, the lamps we ask for are as follows:- 2 - 6 volt head lamps suitable for American bayonet joint - current consumption 2 amps each. 3 - 6 volt button lamps suitable for American bayonet joint, and similar to No.28 C.A.V.
