RE. PETROL GAUGE FITTING ON TANK.

We send herewith N. Sch. 3028 shewing a revised fitting for the petrol gauge fitting on the tank, which we have made to match the top of the filter. It is drawn for P.2. but is applicable for both cars.
We understand that the tank fitting is now supplied by Messrs. Hobson. As the design which we have sent may be too good a job for them to make we suggest that we might make the banjo-like connection and they supply the tank mechanism of the flange.

You will have recently heard from Sales that they agree to the detachable tank fittings being painted. We are still of the opinion that, in spite of what the coachbuilders may now say, they should be either nickel or stainless steel and polished. If painted, the first time they are removed they become unsightly.

The hole in the sheet metal cross member of the frame will need to be slightly enlarged to pass the banjo fitting.

As Sales are very interested in the improved appearance of the back of the car when two spare wheels are fitted at the side, we suggest that we should fit up a car as soon as possible with the large tank extending to the rear cross-member of the frame and this new gauge fitting.

We are sending to you a new design of luggage grid, to take the place of the one you know supply under these conditions. The one now supplied is made up of many pieces taken from the grid which is used in conjunction with one spare wheel at the rear. Its appearance is therefore not the best it could be. In order to shew the best that can be done, we are sending to you a design of a grid which will not have this limitation imposed upon it.

The cost is bound to be more and we are asking Sales to tell us the percentage of cars already supplied which have had a luggage carrier only at the rear, so that we can ask them whether the cost is considered worth while.

We have reason to believe that Messrs. Rootes are the chief advocates of this scheme.
