To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} c. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} c. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} SWH (handwritten) Kingsbury June 22nd.1937 Re. Stove Enamelling of Cylinder Blocks. May I once more bring to your notice the condition which the cylinder heads get into after being in service. The 25/30. and the Bentleys are those to which I refer. I am enclosing a photograph of one 11.HM.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} Mileage 11,908 which shows the state of the enamel. Others which I have reported upon from Paris and Cricklewood were in a worse condition than the one here shown. In one of my reports I attributed the cause to the packing in the rocker cover joint. There is a chemical used in the packing which attacks the enamel. This is definitely more prevalent on the 4¼ than on the 3½. Two different makes of packing are used. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} PS. The owner of the above car recently lost marks at a parade owing to the condition of the cylinder. | ||
